Shifts and drops

How a six hour shift runs, what a drop pays, how intensity changes it and why the dice can be checked.

How a shift runs

You pick a vehicle, a courier and an intensity, and dispatch. The shift lasts 6 hours. Its drops are fixed the moment it starts and spread evenly over the six hours: a bicycle making 8 drops delivers one every 45 minutes. The shift runs on the server, so you can close the page.

The vehicle drives its whole shift: what it makes at the chosen intensity, or the drops left in its life if that is fewer. The courier makes as many of those drops as it has left. A courier that runs out on the way stops there, and the drops after it pay nothing, while the vehicle still uses up the whole shift. So put a courier with enough drops left on a big vehicle, see Vehicles and couriers.

What a drop pays

PaysGoldHow often
Base fee+10Every drop
Tip+50By the courier's tip chance, from 5% to 90%
Big tip+2,5000.2% of drops, whatever the courier

These are the amounts before your levels, your intensity and your vehicle's condition change them. The gold of a shift is paid when the shift ends, and it counts toward your season score. The header shows what your crews on the road have earned so far, so you can watch it build.

Intensity

Intensity trades drops against wear. It is chosen per shift.

  • Careful makes fewer drops and wears the vehicle least per drop, so it lasts the most shifts.
  • Normal is the baseline everything else is measured against.
  • Push squeezes in more drops and a rush bonus on the base fee, and wears a vehicle more than twice as fast per drop.

Time is what the live share pays for, not drops, so a Careful shift earns from the stream for exactly as long as a Push one. See The live share.

The live map

The map follows your crews on real street routes in Berlin, New York and Tokyo. Each shift is sent to one of the cities at random when the crew is dispatched, so the same vehicle can work a different city next time. The city is only how it looks: what a shift pays depends on its seed and its start time, never on the city or the route.

Open any shift to track it: the courier, the drops so far, the tips and the seed. Other players' crews run on the same map in their company colours. The map shows one city at a time and, on a busy day, the newest crews in it; your own crews are always on it.

Checking the dice

Every tip and big tip is derived from a seed that was committed before the shift started. The map is a replay of what will be paid, and anyone can recompute a finished shift. See Fairness and security.
